Neuromyofascial Pain Syndromes are often Misdiagnosed as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
Over the years as a massage therapist in San Francisco, I've had quite a few people come to me complaining that they have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), but that their doctor simply gave them a wrist brace, but it didn't help. After a massage, the "Carpal Tunnnel Syndrome" miraculously went away. This could be why. The nerves of the brachial plexus (a major bundle of nerves) come from your spine at about the 6th or 7th vertebrae. This bundle of nerves runs through your shoulder & pectoral area, all the way down your arm to your fingertips. If you're having pain, tingling or numbness in your arm, wrist or fingers, be aware that it may not be carpal tunnel. Whichever sort of doctor you go to, be sure they are looking at your whole limb, not just your wrist.
I'll be posting some more articles on the topic.
